Advanced MSK Imaging Technology

Musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to produce detailed, real-time images of soft tissue structures throughout the body. Unlike MRI, MSK ultrasound is dynamic — it can capture structures in motion, allowing our specialists to assess tendons, ligaments, and muscles under functional conditions. Ultrasound-Guided Dry Needling

Ultrasound-guided dry needling combines the precision of real-time ultrasound imaging with the therapeutic technique of dry needling. By visualizing the needle and target tissue simultaneously, Dr. Cahoon can accurately place the needle into specific structures — such as trigger points, tendons, or fascial layers — with a level of precision not possible with landmark-based techniques alone. This approach improves safety, enhances accuracy, and allows treatment of deeper or more complex structures that would otherwise be difficult to target.

What to Expect

Physician Referral Required

All MSK ultrasound studies must be ordered by your physician. Bring your referral and any prior imaging reports to your appointment.

No Special Preparation

Most MSK ultrasound studies require no special preparation. Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area being examined.

The Examination

A handheld transducer is moved over the skin with ultrasound gel. The examination is painless and typically takes 20–45 minutes. You may be asked to move the area being examined to assess dynamic function.

Results & Reporting

Our specialist interprets your study immediately and prepares a detailed report. Results are sent promptly to your referring physician for clinical correlation and treatment planning.
